About us

On June 30, 2020, the new construction of Strandrestaurant West aan Zee was completed and opened for the first time. Father and daughter, Douwe and Celina Wiegman, started the first plans for the new building in 2012.
Drawings were made and permits submitted. The idea was to build everything sustainably and to use old and recycled building materials.

Construction started in April 2017. The 120 bollards on which the pavilion was built come from the lock gates near Kornwerderzand at the head of the afsluitdijk. These were transported to the island by ship from Amsterdam.
The beach restaurant is almost entirely made of oak on the outside. The floor is made from recycled sheet pile planks and the roofing of Red cedar singles from Canada.

Inside the beach restaurant, it is a feast for the eyes for those who want to see it. Old building materials have been used everywhere and true works of art have been created by Douwe. Thanks to Douwe and Celina's input, the atmosphere in the beach restaurant is unique and unparalleled.
We are therefore very proud of the end result.

The beach restaurant is open daily from 10 am.
Be welcome and enjoy!
